Recovery Month 2008: Real People. Real Recovery.

September is National Recovery Month, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA encourages every state to undertake activities that promote the importance of prevention, treatment and recovery services locally.

DC Recovery Weekend, a series of promotional events intended to raise community, media, and public official awareness will be September 18-21, 2008.

DC Recovery Weekend is Co-Hosted by Gospel Rescue Ministries (GRM), The DC Recovery Community Alliance (DCRCA), and The Addiction Prevention Recovery Administration (APRA) and the DC Department of Human Services (DHS). Over 25 local organizations, agencies, and businesses have signed on as Sponsors for the Weekend.

City-Wide Conference -- Gallaudet University -- Thursday, September 18, 2008

The Addiction Prevention and Recovery Administration (APRA) in concert with DC Recovery Weekend Co-Sponsors is hosting a city-wide conference entitled "Real People, Real Recovery." The conference will be highlighted by workshops ranging from Treatment vs. Incarceration and The Science of Addiction as well those which focusing on those re-entering the community from treatment programs in need of housing and other social services. The luncheon will provide testimonies from those in long term recovery
